Cool Cities (SDCJ)

People around the world are being ignorant of the world’s situation. The new inventions, for instance air planes, as much as they are being helpful as much as they are effecting out environment. Foot Print tests that have been done around the world are proving that people’s style of life is affecting the temperature.
Due to the above reasons and more, the Sustainable Urban Development Consortium for Japan and Gulf States Partnership (SDCJ) has found impressive technologies. They mainly focused on transportation and urban development and architecture with a low carbon footprint. This city would then defiantly reduce energy consumption by up to 50% using cutting-edge technologies already tried and tested in Japan and available now. Masdar city n Abu Dhabi, is one of the cities that are sponsoring this Japanese project.
As a conclusion I would like to restate that this project will defiantly help the world to be a better place. However, I wish that the Japanese government will advertise it to more countries, and show them the importance of such project.

Why Would I live in Masdar City?

Masdar City is a planned city in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, it is ben designed by the British architectural firm Foster + Partners. It’s located in east-south-east of the city of Abu Dhabi, beside Abu Dhabi International Airport. This city is expected to rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable energy sources, with a sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste ecology.

This Project is being supported by many organizations including World Wide Fund for Nature, and sustainability group BioRegional. These organizations have considered it as a valid example
of one planet living.

In Conclusion, I would like to restate that living in such environment as masdar city might be the beginning to people’s awareness of the need of healthy life. I believe that Abu Dhabi’s contribution, building this city, will help the world and other countries the importance of such new environment.

Abu Dhabi; A Cool City?

Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It is also an active member of the gulf cooperation council (GCC). The city was planned in the 1970s, and had estimated a number of 600,000; however it has exceeded this number to up to 2,600,000. Many projects are being constructed to help in reducing the pollution and increasing healthy life. For instance Al Tagaa Tower and Masdar City.

Masdar City is a new project that was initiated in 2006. It is being constructed 17 kilometers (11 mi) east-south-east of the city of Abu Dhabi, beside Airport. This city will rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable energy sources, with a sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste ecology.
Altagga tower is also a great example of how Abu Dhabi is seeking for a new environment in the city its being built by Germans of 400 meter high. This tower is expected to generate its own electricity. Moreover, the tower is expected to reserve it temperature to 20 degrees, even if the temperature rose to 50 degrees.

Abu Dhabi is one of the cities that are contributing to help the world be a better place, for the future generation. Accepting projects that helps the environment and putting budget towards them proves that UAE national mentality have been improving, and thinking for the future.

One Planet Living

One Planet Living:
There are ten guide principles that people should do, in order to have a healthy and improved planet for us and for the next generations. These are the ten guides and what should be done for them:
· Zero Carbon: Humans increased usage of CO2 is leading to an increase in the temperature. Therefore, we should consider increasing our level of usage for CO2.
· Zero Wastes: Human wastes should be dealt with in a better way, and we should also consider reusing wastes.
· Sustainable Transport: Decrease our usage of transports like cars and air planes, as a matter of fact these uses of transport helps increasing the temperature and pollution.
· Local and Sustainable Materials: unhelpful resources that are used for development for instance the ones that are used for construction helps in increasing damages for our environment; in addition it’s not very beneficial for the community.
· Local and sustainable food: Production of food, which may be very harmful for the human body, by the industrial culture.
· Sustainable water: Due to pollution, fresh water cannot be our main support of water, therefore water need certain steps to be done for in order to drink it.
· Natural Habitats and wildlife: Development lead to the destroying our nature.
· Culture and heritage: Globalization lead to the loss of people’s own heritage, identity and knowledge.
· Equity and fair trade: Poverty is taking place even in the industrialized and world.
· Health and happiness: “Rising wealth and greater health and happiness increasingly diverge, raising questions about the true basis of well-being and contentment “

Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint can be defined as "the measure of greenhouse gases in units of CO2, that is produced by human activities." Measuring the carbon footprint helps individual, communities and countries to know how much co2 they are consuming, and their contribution to global warming. I took the personal test for measuring the carbon footprint and my result was 9.70 tons per annum which was relatively high.
My high results of foot print appeared from various reasons such as using all means of transportation such as cars, trains and airplanes. Also buying packaged food or leaving the air conditioner or the heater on in the whole house. I need to be careful about everything I buy and use.
After careful considerations, I realized that I need to walk more often instead of using my car to go to closer places. Also I need to buy unpacked food, and seasonal food and watch the electricity flow in my house.
It is very important for individuals to know their carbon footprint in the world, because its only then when we realize that this earth is our home, and taking care of it will help us live in a clean and a healthy environment and help our generation from further diseases. From my own experience I would like to reduce my carbon footprint, as I believe even one person matters.
